Everest – North Face & Rongbuk from Tingri: 16 days trek
Relatively unknown and not as frequented as the well-established Rongbuk and Khumbu routes to Everest, the Kangshung valley offers an exciting alternative trek to Everest. In the early days, when the British first climbed Everest from the north, the expedition members often slipped over a pass into this verdant valley to rest and recover from their climbs. Trips begin with the flight to Lhasa where several nights are spent exploring and acclimatizing, then you driv along the highway through the ancient trading towns of Gyantse and Shigatse until Kharta is reached where yaks are rounded up and the trek begins. More lush and beautiful than the barren, glaciated north side of Everest, the Kangshung or East Face of Everest offers spectacular mountain views, pristine forests, rivers and glaciers. 20 – 22 days.
